INET congratulates Dr. Claudia Goldin

We heartily congratulate her on receiving the Nobel Prize in Economics.

Why some winners of the Nobel Prize in Economics receive their awards is not always easy to fathom — but not this year. Dr. Claudia Goldin at Harvard is an indefatigable and vastly productive researcher. She has produced a wide range of studies that are both detailed and imaginative in areas centered around economic history. Our only quarrel is with the Royal Swedish Academy’s citation, which focuses only on her work on gender differences in the labor market. In truth, her research is much broader than that, encompassing areas such as inequality and schooling. That we sometimes see some of her results differently doesn’t matter — they are invariably supported by detailed data and analyses that everyone needs to grapple with.
